Short article indicating that from now on mail to and from Maryborough to England will now bypass Brisbane and go direct to England via Sydney
As an illustration of the attention and thoughtfulness of our representative, we may state that the inhabitants of these districts are indebted to him for a very beneficial alteration in our postal arrangements. In future an English Mail will be made up at Maryborough and forwarded direct to Sydney. A mail for these districts will also be made up in England. Our letters will not, therefore, go into the Brisbane post-office at all, and a considerable saving of time will be effected. For instance, had the new plan been in operation this month, letters for England would have been forwarded by the Waratah yesterday, instead of by the Clarence last week. English letters will also arrive two or three days earlier than by the present plan. (Maryborough Chronicle 18 December 1860 p. 2)
